Front D reported the capture of a seemingly-intact Spitfire at El Riah, so ILAF Operations Chief David Judah ordered Squadron 101 to dispatch a Spitfire pilot to El Riah for an attempt to fly it from there. Squadron 3 pilot Meir Ruff flew Squadron 101 pilot Boris Senior, in Auster 0114, from Hatzor to Beer Sheba, while Squadron 2 pilot Abraham Portugali flew Senior, in a Piper, from Beer Sheba to Abu Ageila. Simultaneously, ILAF Operations Chief Deputy Dan Tolkowsky, Squadron 2 Operations Officer Hanoch Wislitsky and a technical team in a truck arrived at Abu Ageila. The team departed Abu Ageila for El Riah, with an escort of three Jeeps, circa 1500 or later.

All efforts to start the engine of the Spitfire failed and it was towed from El Riah to Abu Ageila, where the tail section was lightly damaged during unloading and the technical team dismantled vital parts – two guns and ammunition, four machine guns and ammunition, sight, battery, radio and mirror. The dismantled Spitfire was placed under a camouflage net at Abu Ageila and the three pilots and technical team returned to Beer Sheba with the dismantled parts.
